PREFABRICATED WET STRUCTURAL JOINT COLUMNS

A prefabricated wet structural joint column (NUS) is a partially prefabricated element made of steel or concrete joined monolithically  to the beams and floors. This joint is completed on site with some additional reinforcements and with the concrete casting.

With the integrative casting, therefore, the monolithism of the structural frame is established in the same way as in the cast in place structures.

MORPHOLOGIES AND TERMINOLOGY

Columns of StercheleGroup PREM System are divided into the following three stem morphologies, each with the range of available sections:

Concrete stem: Rectangular, Square, Circular and Ogival sections

Tubular steel stem: Rectangular, Square and Circular Sections

Steel profile stem: Sections with HEA, HEB, HEM profiles

Each column morphology presents a range of possible grafts and brackets at the base, at the intermediate levels and at the top:

Concrete stem: grafts and brackets at the base, at the intermediate levels and at the top

Tubular steel stem: grafts and brackets at the base, at the intermediate levels and at the top

Steel profile stem: grafts and brackets at the base, at the intermediate levels and at the top

STRUCTURAL CATEGORIES

For all the above morphologies, two construction phases are identified: a first phase in which, within the future joint with beams and slabs, the steel part only is resistant and a second phase in which the hardened concrete casting assumes a role.

In the second phase, therefore, the various column morphologies described above will fall into the following structural categories:

Concrete stem columns
In the second phase they certainly belong to reinforced concrete structures.
For the verification, reference is made to the prefabricated concrete resistance class and considering, for the integrative casting, that a confined concrete guarantees a superior resistance than the cylindrical one.

Circular section tubular steel frame columns non-collaborating within longitudinal resistance
In the second phase these columns are included into reinforced concrete structures category.
For the verification, reference is made to the cast in place concrete class of resistance and it is considered that a confined concrete guarantees a resistance superior than the cylindrical one.

Circular, square or rectangular section tubular steel frame columns collaborating within longitudinal resistance
In the second phase these columns are included into composite steel concrete structures category.
For the verification, reference is made to the cast in place concrete class of resistance and it is considered that a confined concrete guarantees a resistance superior than the cylindrical one. Any buttonholes opened in the joints must be reinstated with added welded reinforcements or must be subtracted from the cylindrical stem resistance.

Steel profile stem columns
In the second phase this morphology is included into steel structures.
Any buttonholes opened in the joints must be reinstated with added welded reinforcements or must be subtracted from the stem resistance.
Combined with PREM beams, they include the PREM Construction System into the Structural Category of Composite Steel Concrete Structures.

FIELD OF USE

The plus of the Prefabricated wet structural joint Columns is their adaptability to any hypothesis of design, geometrical, material; related to structural category and to actions (first and second phase).

On the other hand, it is basically impossible to draw up utilization diagrams that would necessarily be restricted to an insignificant casuistry or constituted by an unmanageable multitude of different situations.

The only reliable way to manage them is with a specific software to be applied to each individual case.
